Based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, Multisensory Mathematics applies the research-based Concrete -Representational -Abstract (CRA) approach to teaching mathematics as advocated by the National Math Panel and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Concepts and skills are taught systematically from simple to complex with review and reinforcement to develop mastery.

New information is taught through visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic modalities to ensure students form a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical operations and language.

Participation in this interactive training directly impacts math lesson planning and implementation by providing teachers with:

  • An understanding of the components of a Multisensory Math lesson plan
  • Ideas for accommodations and strategies to reduce strains on executive function and allow students to practice grade level skills in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ideas for presenting new information at the Concrete, Representational, and Abstract levels of instruction to maximize understanding
  • An opportunity to work collaboratively to brainstorm subskills for lesson planning preparation

All participants will receive lesson planning materials, resources, and templates designed by Marilyn Zecher and Key School Multisensory Math teachers.

Audience: K-5 Teachers
