Affording Hill

A Hill Center education is a valuable investment, empowering students to reach their full potential and become confident, independent learners. We are committed to making the opportunity of attending The Hill Center available to families and students of all backgrounds. In 2017-18, approximately $300,000 was awarded in financial aid. Twenty-five percent of Hill Center families received awards up to $10,600. In addition to financial aid, two State Scholarship Grants are available to qualifying families. Below you will find information regarding The Hill Center financial aid process and the State Scholarship Grants. If you have questions, please contact Wendy Speir, Director of Admissions.

Financial Aid

The Hill Center encourages all families to apply for financial aid if they believe they need any level of support. The Hill Center uses an independent third party, TADS, to determine the ability of the applicant’s family to pay tuition. The TADS recommendations are considered by the Hill Center Financial Aid Committee, which determines whether aid is to be granted and how much aid is to grant. Financial aid need is calculated by TADS without regard to race, gender, ability, ethnicity or religion. Hill especially thanks the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, which has made multi-year investment in expanding access to Hill’s academic program through increasing student financial aid.

State Scholarship Grants

The Hill Center participates in two North Carolina State Scholarship Grant programs. We encourage families to review the program rules thoroughly and to take advantage of these opportunities.

Disabilities Grant Program ($8,000)

Created to help parents pay qualified expenses for children with disabilities who attend school in an eligible nonpublic setting, or in an eligible public setting for which tuition would be required. Visit the NC State Education Assistance Website for specific information.

Education Savings Account (up to $9,000)

Created to expand school choice for eligible students with disabilities in kindergarten through 12th grade. The program provides an option for parents to pay tuition and required fees at a participating nonpublic school and/or qualified expenses for their children with disabilities who attend school in an eligible nonpublic setting, including home school. Visit the NC State Education Assistance Authority Website for specific information.

Additional Information

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC) is a statewide organization that supports greater educational options through parental school choice. Visit the PEFNC website for more information about State Scholarship Grants.

Federal Tax Deduction

School tuition and fees may be tax-deductible as medical expenses. Children who have been diagnosed as having a specific learning disability or attention deficit disorder may qualify for deductions under the federal income tax regulations.
