Vocabulary Micro-credential Stack
Vocabulary is the knowledge of words and word meanings. It can never be fully mastered. It refers to the words we must know to communicate effectively. Oral vocabulary includes words that we use when speaking or listening. Reading vocabulary includes the words we use or see in print. Vocabulary can be learned both indirectly through oral language and directly through specific word instruction and word-learning strategies. Readers cannot understand a text without knowing what most of the words mean.
In the Vocabulary stack, you will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate these three competencies:
- Foundations of Vocabulary (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate an understanding of direct vocabulary instruction, its impact on text comprehension, and word learning strategies to aid a student’s vocabulary acquisition.
- Identify Student Needs (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will leverage data to identify a student’s strengths and challenges in vocabulary.
- Design a Plan for Vocabulary Instruction (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate the ability to design a plan to support a student’s direct word learning acquisition.
- Implement a Plan for Vocabulary Instruction (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will implement a plan to support vocabulary instruction for a student in the classroom.
