Text Comprehension Micro-credential Stack
Comprehension is the reason for reading. Good readers are purposeful and active when reading a text. Research shows that students need explicit instruction in specific comprehension strategies. Good readers need to be able to use comprehension strategies in various ways and in combination with other strategies as they read. For example, students may need to summarize what they just read, then clarify a word they don’t understand, and then predict what may happen next. Strategy instruction should be done through explicit teaching including direct explanation, modeling, guided practice, and application.
