Phonics Micro-credential Stack
Phonics is the system of relationships between letters and sounds in a language. The goal of phonics instruction is to help beginning readers understand how letters are linked to sounds (phonemes) to form letter-sound correspondences and spelling patterns. These skills and strategies will help students learn how to apply this knowledge in order to decode unfamiliar words they encounter while reading.
In the Phonics stack, you will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate these four competencies:
- Foundations of Phonics (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate an understanding of the core components of phonics, their impact on reading development, and strategies for working with students who have demonstrated challenges in this area.
- Identify Student Needs in Phonics (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will leverage data to identify a student’s strengths and challenges in phonics.
- Design a Plan for Phonics Instruction (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate the ability to design a plan to support a student’s acquisition of phonics skills.
- Implement a Plan for Phonics Instruction (5 Credit Hours):
