Foundations of Reading

Foundations of Reading Micro-credential Stack

The National Reading Panel Report researched and identified five key areas for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. Hill Learning Center has developed micro-credentials to provide educators a chance to display their professional learning in the five pillars recognized in the report. In this stack, educators will demonstrate their understanding of the importance of each of these pillars and the impact they can have on building a skilled reader.

In the Foundations of Reading stack, you will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate these five competencies:

  • Foundations of Phonological Awareness (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate an understanding of the core components of phonological awareness, including clarifying the distinction between phonological and phonemic awareness, their impact on reading development, and strategies for working with students who have demonstrated challenges in this area.
  • Foundations of Phonics (5 Credit Hours):
To earn this micro-credential, you will demonstrate an understanding of the core components of phonics, their impact on reading development, and strategies for working with students who have demonstrated challenges in this area.
