Secondary school educators know that students benefit from hands-on instruction, but may struggle with ways to engage students in creative options for making more abstract math concepts relevant and concrete. This one day workshop offers CRA instructional strategies for teaching pre-algebra and algebra concepts using a variety of VAKT tools. Evidence based hands-on strategies will be demonstrated for teaching pre-algebra and algebra skills including solving equations, integers, exponents, expressions and equations, as well as linear functions, systems of equations and quadratic functions. Strategies include linking and transitioning from the concrete level of experience to the pictorial or graph and to the abstract equations which allow for problem solving.
A partial scholarship for this workshop may be available. Please fill out this form and you will be notified if a scholarship is available.
