Day of Dyslexia

Make plans to join us for the Day of Dyslexia sponsored by the North Carolina branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

Speaker: Nancy Coffman – History and Science of Effective Interventions for Students with Dyslexia

Nancy is a past board member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), past president of the Alliance for Accreditation and Certification of Structured Language Education, of the Academic Language Therapist Association (ALTA) and a current board member of North Carolina Branch of IDA. She serves as the Director of the Shelton Academic Reading Approach (SARA) and is a Certified Academic Language Therapist, Qualified Instructor in Alphabetic Phonics, Licensed Dyslexia Therapist in Texas, and an adjunct instructor for Dallas Baptist University.

Speaker: Donna Gargett – Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Donna has worked in the human services field since 2002. She is a proud dyslexic herself and has two daughters both diagnosed with dyslexia. Because of them, she started on a path of advocating in the dyslexia movement. In 2016, she became a State Leader for Decoding Dyslexia. Donna is also a self-taught artist and has founded a nonprofit, Blank Canvas Awareness Art, which provides resources for those with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. The United Way recently presented her with an award for her volunteerism in Onslow County.
