The Hill Center is pleased to announce
three online courses. Differentiated
Instruction: Teaching and Accommodating Students with Learning Differences,
provides teachers with strategies for establishing a differentiated
classroom; as well as techniques for helping students with academic
and behavioral issues to be successful in the general education classroom.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive one Continuing
Education Unit (CEU).
The goals of this course include helping teachers to understand why making classroom accommodations for students with learning differences is important, becoming aware of the learning difficulties associated with LD and ADHD, and having more strategies for managing inappropriate student behaviors.
Study Skills for Student Success Grades: K-12, provides teachers with strategies for teaching students organization, listening/following directions, note taking, critical reading, test taking, and proofreading skills. Practical applications are offered, along with a variety of handouts that support the program. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive one Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
The primary goal of this course is to help teachers, at all grade levels, integrate a variety of useful and helpful study skills into their classroom curriculum. Following the completion of this course, teachers will also have the opportunity to purchase a Teacher’s Manual, with scripted lesson plans for each area of study skills, as well as a student workbook with valuable information and innovative activities. These manuals will provide teachers with the tools to initiate a separate or integrated study skills course.
Phonics: Breaking the Code, provides teachers with knowledge of the fundamentals of reading, including phonological awareness, phonics, syllabication, and accenting. The primary goal of this course is to provide teachers with the necessary foundation for teaching phonological awareness, decoding, and syllabication skills to struggling readers. A secondary goal is to help teachers understand how these specific components directly impact vocabulary, comprehension and fluency -the ultimate goal of effective reading. Practical applications and classroom activities are offered, along with a variety of handouts that support the program. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive one Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
The purpose of this course is to provide a research-based professional development opportunity to expand the teacher’s knowledge of the fundamentals of reading. This can be best accomplished by completing the pre-reading articles, viewing the video segments, reviewing all of the download materials and activities, and successfully completing both the interactive activities and the follow-up exercise associated with the course. To maximize your involvement in this workshop, we recommend that you download and print out the power point slides and handouts before you view the video segments.
