Corporate & Foundation Partners

The Hill Center is proud to partner with many foundations and corporations to advance our outreach to teachers and students in North Carolina, nationally, and internationally. Here are a few of our recent partnerships:

Bank of America Charitable Foundation - A $6000 grant to fund scholarships for K-12 public school teachers serving low income students in the Triangle area to attend best practices professional development workshops at the Hill Center this year.  The Hill Center is excited to partner with Bank of America once again in reaching local teachers with our best practices professional development!

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina - Supporting teachers and teaching through scholarships and a capacity-building grant.

Broyhill Family Foundation - A five-year grant to fund professional development training for public and private school teachers at Hill.

The Cannon Foundation has made a generous gift of $50,000 to support construction of the new Kirby-Horton Teacher Training Center on our campus.

The Carolina Hurricanes' Kids 'N Community Foundation is generously providing support for nine Durham third and fourth graders to attend Hill Tutoring this year.  The students will receive tutoring in the Hill Center Reading Achievement Program (HillRAP) after school at Southwest Elementary.  We are excited to partner with the Hurricanes and know this tutoring opportunity will make a difference for these students this year.  Thank you 'Canes!

Durham Merchants Association has recently granted $8,000 to The Hill Center to provide scholarships for Durham K-12 public school teachers to attend workshops during 2008-2009.

The Hill Center has received a $20,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.  This year's grant will provide funds for NC K-12 teachers to attend HillMath workshops, with priority to be given to teachers in the Duke Energy Piedmont service area.

First Citizens Bank is supporting teaching excellence in our area through a 2009 grant.

A generous gift from Front Street Village, Inc. investors is funding implementation of a HillRAP Project in Carteret County Schools in eastern North Carolina. The Hill Center is partnering with Carteret County Schools to implement HillRAP and HillWrite in elementary classrooms over 4 calendar years.  The project will train approximately 40 Exceptional Children, Reading and Title I classroom teachers to provide remediation of students with learning differences and increase access for greater numbers of at-risk students to Hill Methodology, thereby shaping brighter futures for struggling learners.  Approximately 300 students will benefit across the 4 years.  An independent evaluator will analyze student achievement data and report results after each year of implementation.

The partnership significantly expands Hill Center outreach in eastern NC.   The impact of improved pedagogy will be sustained for years to come.

The F. M. Kirby Foundation - A generous $1,500,000 million grant to partially fund the construction of the new Kirby-Horton Teacher Training Center on The Hill Center campus.

Fox Family Foundation - A $150,000, five-year grant to provide professional development scholarships for K-12 public and private school teachers.

Lowe's Charitable & Educational Foundation is investing in teacher training in NC and beyond through Hill Center professional development and distance learning.

Through a four year grant from the Mebane Charitable Foundation, The Hill Center is also developing and implementing a Middle School Reading Achievement Program (RAP II) with a reading comprehension focus for grades 6-8. The Middle School RAP II will serve as a continuation of the existing Reading Achievement Program (RAP I) already developed for grades K-5 and will be a further adaptation of current Hill Center Methodology with accompanying student objectives and a reading comprehension component. Project components to be implemented over the 4 years of the project will include curriculum development, development of training for RAP II teachers, training of 4th and 5th grade teachers in RAP I and II, training of 3 teachers to Mentor Level 2 Certification, implementation of RAP II with students in Davie County Schools, and collection of student achievement data. Middle school teachers from Davie County will be involved in the development of the curriculum and selection of materials. They will also participate in determining how the curriculum can be integrated with existing classroom technology. It is estimated that 25-30 teachers will be trained throughout the project duration.

The Hill Center is proud and excited to be partnering with the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation to extend the Hill Reading Achievement Program (HillRAP) to more struggling learners in the Durham Public Schools.  Through a new $1,000,000, 4-year grant project, Durham elementary school students will continue to have access to HillRAP, with an added component:  HillWrite, a new written language remediation program.  It is expected that a minimum of 160 students will be served through the grant.  For these students, HillRAP could be the intensive intervention that makes the difference between success and failure in school.

The NC GSK Foundation has generously supported Hill programs over many years and is committed to increasing access to our programs.  Through this grant, online courses will be also be developed, making it easier for educators everywhere to access our transforming methodology.

Added to the new $1 million grant from the NC GSK Foundation was a generous $250,000 contribution to the Hill Center’s Student Financial Aid Endowment, which will increase access for local students to the model school program.

The Robertson Foundation has made a three-year, $1.67 million grant to support system-wide implementation of HillRAP in a large public school system in eastern North Carolina.  In partnership with UNC Wilmington, the Project will also include development of a university-level HillRAP course for teacher candidates, a Leadership Institute for educational administrators in the region, and establishment of a regional model for improving student achievement.

Teachers in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will be able to access professional development at Hill during 2009 through a $7,500 grant from the Strowd Roses Charitable Foundation in Chapel Hill.

Zeist Foundation Partnership 2007-2008 -  The Atlanta-based Zeist Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to The Hill Center for a 2007-2008 partnership with emphasis in 3 areas: developing innovative Outreach curriculum, building professional development relationships with Georgia teachers and schools, and providing scholarships for North Carolina public and private school teachers to attend Hill workshops.
